Update after Hurricane Beryl
5th July 2024
We thank everyone who has expressed their concerns following Hurricane Beryl.
The destruction and devastation our Grenadine island neighbours have suffered is truly saddening.
On behalf of the hotel group, we cannot express sufficient sympathy for the many inhabitants of Union Island, Mayreau, Canouan, Carriacou, Petite Martinique who have lost livelihoods, homes and possessions. Our thoughts are also with our hospitality colleagues of Palm Island & PSV.
Whilst there is damage to infrastructure & some homes on Bequia, we are extremely fortunate and lucky that Bequia was spared the level of devastation witnessed nearby.
Our staff are safe and we are working on finding ways to deliver targeted care & support to those in need in the Southern Grenadines.
The damage to our properties is relatively minor and will be swiftly repaired, with the same spirit & stamina our fantastic team of staff have shown throughout this incredibly challenging time.
I wish to thank them for their professionalism, courage and unwavering duty of care.
Clean-up is already well underway and while property repairs will take a little time; we are resolute in our commitment to restoring Bequia Beach Hotel to a new splendour.
Unfortunately, communications with the Hotel are email only for the time being - telephone lines are down at present.
We will keep you updated with progress and aim to be partly-open in late July/early August and 100% operational by mid-October 2024.
We remain open for bookings & hope to look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Most of all however, our thoughts, prayers and support are with those that are most in need.
Yours truly,
Bengt Mortstedt, Owner Bequia Beach Hotel
